Chelsea Flower Show 2022

Updated: Jan 28, 2023

I was lucky enough to receive tickets to Chelsea 2022 for my birthday. We went early but even so it was already very busy. Having only seen the show on television before it was surprising how compact the site and the show garden plots were. It was interesting to see the variety of designs and planting. Best in show was won by the show garden "Rewilding Britain's Landscape" which I thought presented a realistic representation of a wild landscape but in my mind was not really a "garden".

My favourite plot was in the category of Sanctuary Gardens, "The Stitchers' Garden". I specifically liked the warmth of the materials and planting in this design. For me the planting became the main focus of this garden, with grasses used to soften the form of the herbaceous perennials creating a naturalistic style. The structures in the design were very simple clean forms with panels made from woven willow that complemented the style of planting.

I also took the opportunity to indulge my passion for Bonsai with some fabulous specimen on display in the Pavilion.
