Kew Gardens Visit

Updated: Jan 28, 2023

Kew Gardens was a great opportunity to see plants from many different environments that I had never seen before. The plant I found most amazing was the giant water lily, Victoria amazonica.

I had hoped to go on the tree top walk but unfortunately it was closed due to electrical storms.

It was great to visit another Japanese garden, and to recognise the significance of the placement of the stones within the design, representing a turtle and a crane which have cultural significance.

The exhibition in the Minka House about silk production and silk worms was very interesting.

The Princess of Wales Greenhouse was extremely hot but housed a fascinating collection of cacti, orchids and tropical plants. I enjoyed the way the different habitats were presented, as if you were walking through their world rather than simply looking at a collection of specimen.

Too much to see in a day, must return!
